The sword scabbard's silver decorations are adorned with a combination of human and animal figures. This type of decoration, known as "animal style," emerged during the Migration Period, around the 5th century CE. It is a distinctive Germanic art style used to decorate items such as jewelry, belts, and sword sheaths.

The animal heads resemble horse heads seen in profile, and bird beaks opening over a human figure. Additionally, it is further embellished with masks and small heads featuring pointed ears. The decoration shows similarities to other Norwegian jewelry from this period, suggesting that the mount was likely produced in a Norwegian workshop.

Gold and silver were not commonplace; decorations made of such exotic materials were crafted exclusively for the elite in society, making the silver decorations a clear status marker.
