The tablet-woven band
Tablet-woven bands are narrow decorative bands which are fastened on the edges of clothing or used as belts. The fragment from such a band preserved from Uvdal Stave Church is one of a kind here in Norway because its complexity. The band is created with a rich pattern and strong contrasting colours. The fragment is 25 cm long and 5 cm wide. Threads on the back of the band indicates that it has probably been fastened to a surface of some sort, perhaps a cloth or textile used during rituals in the church.
